The political subtext - Robin Hood essentially tackles the aristocratic fat cats who are exploiting the workers who keep the country going - couldn't be more timely, of course. There's even talk of a Robin Hood tax on those banks which have used billions of pounds of taxpayers' money to get out of the big hole that they dug themselves into
I'm not trying to turn this into a political thread, but I am surprised that Robin Hood has not been championed more by Marxist historians. Or maybe he has been?
I meant the whole "steal from the rich, give to the poor" thing.
I know what you meant, I was trying to avoid the politics. Sometimes I get sick of the way politics can enter just about anything as a subtext. It almost seems like you cant start a conversation anymore without politics entering it at some point. Sometimes I just want to talk sports, you know?Speaking of talking sports, i had somebody tell me that I must be a conservative because I am a fan of a Big 12 school. I just had to shake my head and giggle.
According to this article about Robin Hood: As so much in legends, the historical truth isn't what matters. Instead it is the legendary deeds of Robin Hood that excite us. The man who challenged the state, who dared to take what the rotten government claimed to own, the man who not only did these deeds himself, but also recruited others to help him and in doing so, gained the trust and affection of his people. It?s a legend that will never lose its appeal.Make sure that he wouldn't have been an iconic figure for communism or other totalitarian regime.http://mises.org/article.aspx?Id=1492 An individual VS the establishment ... way too dangerous 😮
Let it be known that the Flynn version was filmed in Chico, CA (Peoples' Republic of California)…. [by vote of the Council, a Nuclear-Free Zone]Also many of the crew and cast stayed at Richardson Springs, a near-by resort. The Springs is now part of the YWAM (Youth With A Mission) network... in the years since the Richardsson family sold out to a religious group, the name Springs of the Living Waters was commonly used. Truly Marxist in that they stayed in a classy place to help deconstruct the class stucture. ;D
