    How in the heck did a song composed to commemorate Russian victory against Napoleon become such an iconic American 4th of July song?

    Probably because it goes well with fireworks.  Really, I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is it.

    Because we don't have any great classical musicians here that could have written anything near as good. 🙂
