I have felt a few from the New Madrid fault here in MO, but thankful we didn't feel anything here in Missouri…would have made it worse for the folks in Virginia.
Now we have a hurricane coming. They're forecasting it to be Cat 1 by the time it gets home. Hope they're right! 😮We haven't had a hurricane in years. I remember getting all excited as a kid. Now that I'm a homeowner (with lots of big trees in my yard) it's not so much fun anymore.
This is the most overhyoed hurricane I've ever seen. Evacuating NYC, closing airports and busses for a Cat 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 40 or less? Come on! (and by the time it gets to Long Island and New England, it'll probably just be a troipical storm)
led by Bloomberg. Man, that guy's an idiot. I bet there will be more problems (can't get to the hospital for example) as a result of shutting down everything rather than from the storm.(edited to remove atrocious grammar)
Hurricane/tropical storm update: I was among the lucky half who didn't lose power in RI. Some lost it for a few hours, many are still without now. There are some good size trees down all over the place. A few streets near my house looks like a disaster area with big trees down in just about every yard. It's a mess. I think it's because they are up on a hill. It's pretty bad, but could have been worse and I've experienced stronger hurricanes. Saw some “report” on drudge about the wind speed not being over 35 mph….yeah right. We had 70-80+ mph gusts. I guess the worst of it in New England was up north in VT and NH with severe flooding. I lucked out on this one, but they are saying another one might be coming. Hopefully Obama will lower the seas a few more inches (like he did for this one).I have this one tree in my front yard that just makes me nervous. No where to go except down on my electrical wires. Tree companies are busy now, but I think in a few weeks I'll get it removed. It's tilting slightly now, so I fear any storm with big winds is going to bring it down. The local weather reports and news are OK but the national reports are pathetic with them acting like this was the biggest weather disaster ever. (I'm getting really sick of words like "unprecedented" and "historical")
True. I'd hate to see what a strong Cat 1 or Cat 2 will do here. ??? With all the trees down, I think it's because we haven't had any big wind storms in recent years and there were a lot of dead or weak trees.
