This site offers a rather interesting/humorous take on past-meets-present Lincoln campaign.http://www.flackcheck.org/lincoln-campaign/

Lincoln didn't need a teleprompter to get his message out clearly.  He was a very clever and charismatic persona.  However, by today's standards, he doesn't look the part.  Lincoln was tall, lanky, and ugly in appearance.  Americans nowadays tend to elect good looking candidates.  A big reason for this is because of the women voters.  They just won't vote in an ugly man unless he's super qualified and known for his integrity as a leader, husband, and father.  Mitt Romney is probably the best looking GOP candidate in terms of appearance and as a father/husband. I'm sure this secured many women voters and that's why he is going to be the nominee.  Lincoln's other handicap was his wife.  The national media would have had a field day with her especially once it was widely known she was mentally/emotionally unstable.

I think that a lot of democratically-elected figures from history would never have gotten the chance to serve their countries if they lived our world today.  We could make a list.

And that should say something about the modern day election mindset… Possibly started with Calvin Coolidge and perfected by FDR?

Comparing events or other things and what-ifs in history is fun to a point, but I think when you start looking at individuals, we should be cautious of any comparisons.  Augustus was one of the greatest leaders of Western Civilization.  But would we want him as President?

If we're talking about post nuclear war where zombies are roaming everywhere, yeah I would take Augustus.
