An HBO 7 part mini series on John Adams is starting March 16. I watched an hour last night about the filming, and it looks like it should be excellent.

Nobody really talks about John Adams in historical circles these days. It's good to see him get some attention. I'd like to see documentaries on other neglected presidents like Millard Fillmore or John Tyler or Zachary Taylor. Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, Kennedy, and the Roosevelts seem to get all the glory.

Oh, for a moment there I was going to ask if you are crazy or something...I thought you had included Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington, Kennedy in the list of "neglected" presidents. Now I see you are saying the opposite. But what I want to ask is how much you know of Millard Fillmore. Tonight Bill O'Reilly mentioned something about how Millard Fillmore almost broke the streak of white males on the presidency of the United States. I didn't know what he meant by that. I thought maybe he had a non-white running mate, but from what I read I think he went without a VP the first term and then added someone white for the second term (Andrew Jackson Taylor, I believe), when I think he ran with the Know Nothing party. Anyway, it was a curious statement by O'Reilly so I was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was.

Excuse me, but let's try to stay on line here. The subject is John Adams, and his wife. Being guilty of diverting threads on other forums, I am not happy to see such efforts here. The subject is John Adams. Thank you.
Is not Millard Fillmore part of that family of crippled duck that try to be funny every Sunday? But what I want to ask is how much you know of Millard Fillmore. Oh, shoot, my bad. How am I supposed to see good ducks?
I regret my comments; my big mouth has offended many along the road; these views were generated from ignorance. My antagonism was fueled by the fact that I have no idea who Millard Fillmore was, so I admit my ignorance, and welcome any discussion, from which this poor pilgrim may learn. My humblest apologies. Fillmore sounds familiar, but this old fart has been out of school too long.Thank you, GregIf you don't have access to HBO, it will come to you free at some time. What is remarkable is the effort they made to achieve historical accuracy, right down to intricate details. In years to come, it will come in boxed sets ....This is our history, ladies and gentlemen, and this is the best effort to date to illustrate the early formation of our culture.

This production covers his life. And that is what is fascinating.
James Madison is probably the most enigmatic President we've had. Nobody really has a clue what the man believed personally when it came to religion. Yes he was a defender of religious tolerance, but we don't know if Madison was religious himself.I studied under Lance Banning at UK, and he is the most cited scholar on all things Madison. He's another one of those Presidents that historians seem to shy away from because he's so hard to nail down. I freely admit I know very little on Fillmore myself. I haven't studied Presidents like I should. I know a little about Carter, Nixon, Eisenhower, FDR, and Woodrow Wilson and from Reagan onward, but I haven't had the opportunity to study any of the others....well save Lincoln.
The reruns are numbing – best to leave programming to your cable service – the repeat episodes repeat – best to not check into local motels – they con't take Master Card. But. if you want to learn about John Adams, tune in. To HBO. Or by it later, what ever. I admit, it is too bad that most of the populace is unable to view HBO. Too bad. Costs too much money. The discussed film will be available soon for viewing. What ever it takes, it is worth it. Good luck with cable in you area. In case you were not aware, cable service in your area is too expensive. They can kill you at random. If you complain about lack of service. Scarey, huh? Yeah, they can kill you! Because they have a lot of money, and they are not interested in complaints; they just need to kill any fool that complains. This how cable companies maintain power and price over us and local politicians. Local politicians are for sale, to anyone. This why they got into politics – to take our money. Wake up, will you please? It is time to take over. If you have to ask what needs to be taken over, then, I guess you need to come to my class. And anyone is welcome, if you know how to kiss ass .... kicking ass should be reservered for those that need it. Kick ass can be directed accurately, which is demanded by our constipation. If you do not do what the constipatation says, you are a traitor.Take charge, and kick out the current government, or forever remain constipated.
Quote from the most recent episode:This, from the John Adams miniseries on HBO during an informal debate between John Admans and Thomas Jefferson. TJ: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots; it is a natural manure."I thought it a significant observerance on today's failure to do anything. Nobody cared to comment on the Star Wars network. Could it be our problem, too?
We have HBO. We have Showtime. We have ESPN. My husband has the remote attached to him. He watches sports & I do homework. Lucky him. Personally, I'd like to view a special about Zachary Taylor…if I could get the remote.

Wow – I caught the third round today by accident (did not know it was on), but I do love golf! Good luck tomorrow – today? I will be watching, and I don't have any competition for the remote; as I live alone, I am a guaranteed hole in one! 🙂
