Heck yeah it would have been fun. A buddy and I have been tossing around the idea of doing something similar over hear on a decent size wooded lot he owns. I have some experience of masonry/wood construction when I was a kid and it is not as difficult as you would think. The hardest part is getting the chimney flue right so it draws correctly.
You should do it. You'd be building it in Hansel and Gretel territory, would you not? Just don't throw any kids into the oven, please. 😉
