I was over at imdb.com discussing the movie Flyboys. There was criticism there that Americans turn out to be the heroes once again (the movie takes place against the backdrop of Americans fighting for the French air force). I then did a little reading on Wikipedia about the Battle of Britain in World War II, and then about The FewThe Few[/wiki], the British RAF pilots who defended the country against the Luftwaffe. Through this I find that a movie is being planned for 2008 in which Tom Cruise plays the role of an American who fights for the RAF, and that because of this the controversial “American heroism” theme is coming around again.Do you think it's true? Is there a problem with movies portraying Americans as heroes of wars, of the figures of good against global evil?
