The Panhellenic Games lasted over 1,000 yrs. Only one time were they delayed and that's because of Nero. Not once were they ever cancelled, not even during the Peloponnesian Wars. At times a city-state was banned if they violated the Sacred Truce, but once they paid the fines, they were allowed to compete again. Even after Sparta invaded Elis, they were still allowed in future games. Keep in perspective that, starting in the 6th century BC, the major game circuit (Olympian, Pythian, Isthmean, and Nemean) occured 6 times every 4 years. The modern Olympics have been in existence for just over 100 years. They were cancelled 3 times (1916, 1940, and 1944) and there were 3 major boycotts (1976, 1980, and 1984). Not sure, but were the Munich Games ended early?IMO, that's quite a remarkable difference.
