Okay but why didn't the Cia send “Robot Fish Charlie” instead ??https://www.cia.gov/ then click Quick Link / http://www.flickr.com/photos/ciagov More seriously : does a diplomatic status matter in such countries playing double -if not triple- game? However I believe (and hope) that since this case has been made public and largely known through worlwide medias, he might sour some time in jail but should be released after few "horse-dealer" settlements
To me, that is the heart of the problem. It should not take worldwide media pressure to get the current Adminsitration to insist that normal international rules be applied. In fact, it seems they are not if the the US is allowing a Pakistani court to decide if he has diplomatic immunity. The question of immunity is not a matter for the courts but for the Pakistani government and the US is being weak by not standing up for this guy. I predict they are in fact, going to throw him under the bus and then make excuses afterward. Probably something about respecting the laws of a foriegn country and good relations when if he had diplomatic immunity then those laws did not apply in the first place.
Well spooks should know that if they are outed in the field, they are going to be thrown under the bus. It's part of the risks associated with the job. Pakistan will use the guy to get some concessions (if they are smart), and will eventually release him back to us.
It looks like Mr. Davis has been released. 'Blood Money' Helps Free CIA Contractor Accused of Murder in Pakistan What we don't know is if the administration paid or if someone else did. Perhaps the Pakistani government paid to end the muted dispute with the US over the case. We will probably never know.
