I saw this movie a few nights ago. I was not as impressed with it as I was with the original from the early 1980s. I remember seeing that one in the theater as a kid. Now, I haven't seen that original version in quite some time, but I do know that the new one only generally followed its predecessor. I did like the fact that a plausible scenario was used for the storyline; that is, most of the gods benefited from the love given to them by mortals, and this was why they wanted the people to worship. That answers the basic question of: why do the gods need mortals at all? What I didn't like about the new version was the darker/yellow tinged hues that color the film, the "Goth" look of Hades, and the use of what I think are non-mythological figures in the storyline. I also thought that (like many action films nowadays) the CG went overboard. Oh, and I never really did figure out why the mortals would ever want to advance on Mount Olympus. What, exactly, were they hoping to accomplish by that?

While the movie offers a plausible explanation, in a broader sense addressing all of Greek mythology, I'd have to answer the question by saying: "Entertainment"
DonaldBakerParticipantHarry Hamlin, Burgess Meredith, and Lawrence Olivier pawns the new version. Better actors with low tech cgi is always greater than pitiful actors who depend on graphics to hide their awful performances. I was thoroughly disappointed with the new movie.
