Some schools have already started, but what classes are you registered for/teaching this Fall?
September 7, 2009 at 10:35 pm #16466WallyParticipantRetired in June. RSO class at a local gun club starts soon, taking that to complement my Coach tag.

Oh, wow, I did not know that! Congratulations on finishing up your career in education (well, one type of education, that is!). So what else do you have planned in the future, if you don't mind me asking?
September 8, 2009 at 12:24 am #16468WallyParticipantFor the time being just enjoying not having to fight a flawed educational system that, like a wounded hyena, is snapping at its own hanging guts. Sounds harsh but until we get back to teaching kids how to think rather than what's likely to be on a test, it's gonna be ugly.If Obama delivers the speech they ran on the web, and anybody really takes it to heart, we may have a chance but it might just be Dr. Feelgood's Fluff too. As I said in another thread the message is the same one we all try to send; does he get personality points for being the Prez? Who knows?
September 8, 2009 at 12:25 am #16469cadremumParticipantCongrats Wally! Lets have some smooth sailing for you and maybe some traveling? 😀
September 8, 2009 at 12:45 am #16470WallyParticipantThanks, the wife and I went on a cruise a few years back… really nice except for the sea days. My buddy that was in the Navy likes that part best. We'll see in a year or so when things calm down; right now too busy just doing little stuff around the place.
September 8, 2009 at 1:31 am #16471skiguyModeratorCongrats on your retirement, Wally! Enjoy yourself. 🙂
September 8, 2009 at 3:57 am #16472WallyParticipantBreaking clay ashtrays in the AM. Priceless!
September 8, 2009 at 11:29 am #16473scout1067ParticipantCongrats Wally. I cant wait to retire for good and have my time be my own and my wife's of course. In other news, I strated a class on Modern European History monday and will be taking a History of the Enlightenment in October. After that I have one class and my theses and I will be finished with my MA. the only thing I have to look forward to after that is retiring from the military in almost exactly two years.

You'll have that coveted military pension...that's pretty nice indeed.Well I will be taking a class in Roman art and archaeology, and also one in...well, it's one of those thematic-based classes which doesn't focus on one specific time period. From the sounds of the catalog entry it will cover historical costume depiction (i.e. in art). It should be pretty interesting when you think about the way people are dressed in Greek and Roman reliefs, or in medieval manuscripts, Renaissance paintings, etc.

I am not convinced that the government will be able to pay my military pension in a few years or if they can, it wont be worth anything.

The generation that is being raised by former kids of the Carter admin. will be more like us than the Woodstock generation. Think of it, the kids who lived through the depression grew up to be savers and valued everyday things, taking nothing for granted. Their kids rebelled and were pulled into the more, more, more culture. I think my generation is raising the next to be savers and to appreciate little things. I have HOPE.
September 9, 2009 at 1:42 am #16477scout1067ParticipantHope was the last thing left in Pandora's box. I try to follow the military maxim of plan for success but prepare for failure. If I manage it right my military pension will be gravy and i will be able live from other means and I dont mean a job. In some ways the current recession has proven a Godsend because I was financially prepared to take advantage of some of the investment opportunities that have come out of it.
