They don't need to find dirt on Ron Paul, his natural looniness is enough to put most people off. Sorry, insanity leavened by a few good ideas will not convince me to vote for him.I am going to make a prediction here. Since apparently the entire conservative side are idiots just as much as liberals are. I am going to predict that Romney gets the nomination because he is seen as most electable. That is the qualification for nomination in the past 20 years. A presidential election has not been about ideas since at least 1979 and maybe 1951. Presidential lelections are about looks and likability, not whether someone is going to do what's right for the country. How else can we explain the nominations of Bob Dole, John McCain, Walter Mondale, The Elder Bush, and Barrack Obama?

Even with Cain ahead in almost every valid poll? If Romney does get the nomination, will a third party do more damage to him (and thereby re-elect Obama) then ever before?

That's the first time I have heard someone call Bob Dole or John McCain "lookers", if you know what I mean. Actually, it is true to a certain extent, going back to the nation seeing a dapper JFK on television. To a certain extent, people want someone who they are "proud of" as a representative of the country on the national level, but at the same time they wouldn't vote in a male model without experience over an ugly person who is clearly the better choice. I think there is a balancing act of reasons - unconscious or otherwise - which lead people to vote in this way or that. "Likeability" is one of these as well. I can't say I am against this being a reason, but it should be balanced among the other reasons.
Ron Paul not insane? ::)The man is nuttier than a fruitcake. Like scout just posted in a different thread, he comes up with 3 good ideas and 800 totally insane ones... Herman Cain had me for a while, but his stance on abortion is turning me off big time. That is one issue that I will never bend on. The family should not be the ones deciding if murder is OK. Period.
Looks, speeches, and persona matter with some more than competency. Back in 1948 when I was 16, I remember otherwise relatively sane ordinary New Deal dem. adults who loved aristocratic, well-spoken FDR hating Truman because he was so vulgar and common, too undignied to be POTUS, and instead voted for Henry Wallace (supported by Eleanor) in protest — not because of HST's policies with which they generally agreed. Only Strom Thurmond's Dixiecrats saved the dems from a Republican victory.
I am afraid the press is going to make Romney just like they made Obama. For the simple reason that Romnney will turn off so many conservatives that Obama can then get reelected.

I do too, but the wishful thinking side of me is hoping that people are aware of the press now after what happened last time.
So am I insane for liking Ron Paul? Do I need to get some help? Come on guys, you're selling the guy short. He is the most pro constitution candidate in the field by far, and it's not even debatable.

Your not insane, you just are not thinking straight. Sober analysis of what Paul has to say will convince you of his looniness.
