If Rome had not conquered the Hellenistic world it could not even have controlled the entirety of the Italian peninsula. he supposition is flawed because Rome's conquest of the Grek speaking world was a precondition for their later greatness. We might as well be talking here about what if Epirus had conquered a world spanning empire, that was acrtually a near-run thing anyway. The Romans barely beat Pyrrhus of Epirus as it was.
