My Wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Aeth and his wife and son for dinner on Saturday in Belgium. We had a very agreeable evening and the food was outstanding. My wife had to attend a class last week in Koblenz and since it is only a few hours from Liege I emailed Aeth and asked about meeting. We agreed and he picked the restaurant, a grill that puts most American steakhouses I have been to to shame. The food was outstanding and of course, since it is Belgium so was the beer.I have been on the Forum for a little over 6 years now and this is the first time I have met a forum member in the flesh. It was very enjoyable and my wife and I had a great time. We found a super cool and romantic B&B not far away as well.Pictures are below.

March 24, 2014 at 4:11 pm #29826scout1067ParticipantYes, of course. We mostly talked about the WWII sites I visited in western Germany during the week. For the most part, it was a social visit though.
March 24, 2014 at 4:25 pm #29827AethelingParticipantIt was a very good time indeed. For a first meeting, time was a bit short to start historical debates while struggling with meals, beers and the little lutin.
March 25, 2014 at 4:50 pm #29828AethelingParticipantWe also talked a little about Ukraine and Russia, and other historical places to visit in Belgium; like the new museum in Bastogne, La Gleize museum, and the fort of Loncin, in Liege area. This year is dedicated to the 100 anniversary of WWI, the first "industrial war"?http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=KAz5f4IdUHchttp://www.december44.com/en/history_battle_of_the_bulgela_gleize.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_de_Loncin
March 25, 2014 at 5:17 pm #29829scout1067ParticipantWe also talked about the two guys killed last week on the old Ypres battlefield by a shell left over from WWI. Munitions last and last.First World War shell explodes at former Ypres battlefield killing two people
March 25, 2014 at 6:01 pm #29830PhidippidesKeymasterIn the First World War an estimated 300 million explosives were fired by German and British forces that did not explode. Most of these have not been recovered and in 2012 alone 160 tonnes of them were unearthed from below-sea level soil around Ypres.
Wow.
March 25, 2014 at 7:05 pm #29831scout1067ParticipantLast week, while walking along the old Siegfried line near St Vith I stumbled upon two German Hand grenades at the bottom of an old foxhole. I stopped my explorations at that point as Mr Shrier does not mess with UXO's and does not even want to be anywhere near them.
March 25, 2014 at 10:01 pm #29832PhidippidesKeymasterWas this out in the woods somewhere? I'm guessing you reported the grenades? Hate to see some kids exploring there without your awareness.
March 26, 2014 at 5:27 am #29833scout1067ParticipantYes, it was in a woodline about 2km from the current border. I also marked them and told the fire department in the nearest village. They thanked me and had me pinpoint the location on a map so they could contact the German Army and have them go out and recover them. It is my understanding that most people who live along the old battle line avoid the area of the forest with the most foxholes because of the amount of UXO's in here.
