Why is the press exaggerating an “Islamic terrorist” threat in Beijing? It's not Islamic terrorists, it's Chinese/Muslim/Turkish nationalists and seperatist groups in Xinjiang province who have been fighting for autonomy since the time of Mao.All my usual news hangouts (Drudge, FOX, CNN) are using the term Islamic terrorist as if it's Al Qaeda or something. No wonder no one takes terrorism seriously anymore. It's a term being seriously overused by the press nowadays.
I think that Basque bombers would also be considered terrorists, as would members of the violent side of the IRA. True, Islamic terrorists might not all fall into the same group and if they aren't making that distinction then they should do so.
Well, they do explain who they are, but they still use the term Islamic terrorist. Why don't they just call them Uyghur seperatists because that's who's making the threats? One thing I just thought of; China is seriously controlling press coverage over there and I'm wondering if they're "encouraging" this type of reporting to get our sympathies and make it appear they on our side in the war on terror. The only problem with that is this group, just like the Basques and PIRA, have nothing to do with the war on terror.
I didn't hear anything about any attempts made during the Olympics. I'm glad it was secure.
Somehow I don't think Al Qaeda would be able to move around as freely in China as they would in say the U.S. Just a hunch.
Very true. The other place I would think an Olympics would be safe in would be North Korea. That double-edged sword of dictatorship will do that.
