KeymasterToday I tried to make a few posts and have gotten an error saying something like I have been timed out. Anyone else have the same problem? I recently upgraded to Firefox version 3.6 so I imagine that may be the problem, but I will have to check to make sure. I thought that someone else experienced a similar issue with IE a while back. Anyone remember?

ParticipantI just upgraded today and my browser is loading much faster. So I'm happy with 3.6. 🙂

ParticipantI think that was me… just compose in Word and paste to window if it's going to be a long rant. ;D

KeymasterIf you are getting “timed out” when posting (using Firefox, at least):1) You can click the backward button on your browser2) You should see your post again; you might want to copy it just in case3) Click on the "reload" button at the top of your browser4) Try posting againI'm not sure why this is happening. It started happening over at WritersofHistory.com as well recently. I'm thinking it has something to do with SMF forum software and Firefox. It's kind of annoying since it times me out really quickly sometime. Previously, I could take practically an hour to write a post and it wouldn't time me out. So some kind of quirk has developed.

ParticipantI'm not having any problems. But I usually don't take that long to post, and I use the quick reply for most of my replies.

ParticipantIf I am writing a long post I generally type it out in MSWord and then copy & paste it into the board. I like writing on word better, the boxes on the forum are too small if I am typing a long post and sometimes it is hard to find what I am looking for if I want to edit something. Plus, my horrible typing skills lead to a lot of typos and I try to spell and grammar check everything before I post so I don?t look like a retard for posts full of mistakes.

Participantscout, I use the same tactic for long posts; for the same reasons. 😉

ParticipantI first started doing it for school and I have just decided I like writing out long posts better that way over time. Plus, I cant accidentally hit submit or lose it if my computer randomly crashes, which my old machine used to do. I am fixing to get a new Windows 7 machine as soon as it gets here in the mail with an 18.4in screen, which I need because my eyes are getting worse. Incidentally my son tried to call me four-eyes for wearing glasses. He laughed until I gave him an Atomic Noogie. He thus learned that he who laughs last is the one without a raspberry on the top of his head. 😀 😀

ParticipantIn an unrelated manner, I have noticed that when I'm posting on SMF forums (here, WoH, and CL), Firefox has a tendency every now and then to crash on me….well not crash, but shut down arbitrarily. I recently upgraded to the latest version, but it appears to be somewhat unstable when textareas are loaded up. Perhaps this is the root for the time out issue. I don't know.

KeymasterWhat extensions do you have installed? That hasn't happened to me (yet).

I do have a few. I have SmarterFox, Java Quickstarter, Microsoft.net Framework Assistant, TV Fox, FireShot, Download Helper, Capture Fox, Anycolor, Yahoo Toolbar, and Java Console.

KeymasterI've got a few of those as well. My guess is that if there is one offending add-on installed for you, it would be SmarterFox since that tweaks things under Firefox's hood. You might want to try temporarily de-enabling it or uninstalling it to see if that clears up your problem.

I've been suspicious of that addon. I don't really like it anyway. I'll remove it.
