I just called the US Post Office to ask a question about shipping items and spent 55 minutes waiting to talk to a human before I finally gave up and hung up. And to think that the government will soon be running health care…
I brought a package there twice and left twice with my answer not cleared up. Apparently, you cannot send perfumes with alcohol through the mail, unless it goes via ground shipment – and even then, if you send multiple bottles, you have to ship them separately. We made the mistake of getting a few small bottles (e.g. 3 oz. or less) of perfume and hand sanitizer that couldn't be shipped the normal way (gift for my niece). Finally, I went back to the post office the third time and had to open the package to ask about whether I could send the items. I could only send one perfume in the box. The others I will probably have to bring on the plane when we fly up.
Yes, the USPS has some stupid rules about what you can ship. I have to deal with that all the time when shipping to my APO address. Generally, if I have something the PO won't ship I ship it UPS or FedEx. Both carriers are less restrictive although you may have to pay extra if they say the item is hazardous. I use UPS to ship German beer to my brother for his birthday every year.
That's a good idea. Perhaps I should have looked into one of those services sooner, seeing how there are UPS and Fedex locations just as close as the post office. I guess I just usually default to the USPS.
