Never heard of this guy before recently, but I like him!! Why can't all Conservatives speak boldly like this. So far we have Palin, Cain, and (to some extent) Paul Ryan who can. Where's the rest?Cain's thoughts on abortion, DADT, and ENDAThis sort of goes along with those bulletin boards I've read about (but haven't heard a peep from the MSM)Here.
True, but does he currently hold any office? I have noticed over the years that it's easier to like commentators than elected officials, probably because they are freer to speak their mind. I'd just hope that such thoughts would carry over into an elected term.
As Phid said, you personally may like his positions on issues but anyone too far to the right or left simply will not be elected. The simple fact is that people who tack to the center are who gets elected. Even Obama stayed somewhat to the center in his campaign, he did not reveal the true extent of how far to the left he is until after he was inaugurated. The guys I like are the ones who speak their mind after getting elected and stay in office because their policies work. Chris Christie comes to mind, to my knowledge his popularity in NJ has stayed high despite the media and Unions beating him up.I just cant see someone who claims Planned Parenthood is a conspiracy to kill Black Babies getting elected whether the claim has truth behind it or not.
This topic has been split as we veered completely off the original post. The new thread is here: Should we be civil with those we disagree with politically? To continue the original. Herman Cain will go nowhere politically because his blunt style will not sit well with the broad center of American political life. Despite what the news would have us believe, there are really three sides to American politics; the left, center and right. I would argue that it is the center that really decides elections. Past history seems to indicate that as well. Despite how much someone pleases the base of their party, if they cannot appeal to the center they cannot reasonably expect to get elected. That is what will stop Cain. His conservative credentials are impeccable but his speaking style is off-putting if you are not someone that agrees with him in the first place. Here is a video of him speaking at the 2009 Georgia Republican convention
