Someone submitted a link to a site called Pastigo (see links section) which looks interesting and has some great potential. I haven't signed up at the site but from the outset it looks like you can plan a trip (say a cross-country trip) and it will plan an itinerary or map for you with historical sites you'll go by during your trip.
