I did not know this story:Appears that there is an unknown site of an early New World battle between Hernando De Soto and American Indians led by Tascalusa:
According to the accounts, De Soto met an imposing chief, Tascalusa, kidnapped him, and demanded slave labor, grain and women — as he had across most of the South. Tascalusa led De Soto to Mauvilla, where an ambush awaited him that October day in 1540.
I had not heard of the site but according to this article which I quoted archaeologists still cannot pinpoint the exact location where the battle took place. Sounds like a job for Team WCF....pouring over Google Maps may bear some fruit in revealing the the precise location. 🙂
