Made famous by a painting, the photo is just as striking… can anyone name the city?
Dresden?
Does look like some I've seen of Dresden but wrong war.
Richmond, Va?
It does look like some of Richmond also but wrong continent as well as war.Hint is: "lunes gerniqu?s, golperik ez". This translates roughly as "not a stroke of work gets done on Mondays".
Guernica? (Or however you spell it).
You got it. I hadn't ever seen the photo, only the painting.
Your hint was too “hinty” LOL.
Interesting. I did not know that, though I probably should.

:-[When I used this with the 10th graders I think I used something like: "On this date in 1937, the first air raid on a civilian target happening in this war..."; they all guessed WWI and WWII (oh no... a couple said Viet Nam... a stock answer for many kids as it is ancient history to them :o)I'll try to do better in the future. 😉
By the way, Picasso never impressed me as an artist. I'm not saying he wasn't talented, but abstract art just goes over my head I guess.

I'm not a huge fan, either. Much of 20th century art and beyond really requires knowledge of the artist and his works (and the underlying movements) in order to appreciate it. In other words, it is much more esoteric than art from basically the beginning of Western Civ until the beginning of the 20th century.

Not impressed ? Try this one : who ? when ? 😉

I've been to that town. Even visited the El Greco museum/house. Funny, I don't remember all the hills there. 😮
