Anyone tried any recipes for really old dishes? I know there are some out there (we did a thread on colonial recipes here) but I haven't actually tried to make anything like this. So, what's the oldest recipe that you've either made or eaten (assuming the recipe involves more than, say 2 or 3 ingredients ;D )?
Does boiling a lobster count? (I added an onion, potato, and few ears of corn….that's 4)
I figured someone would say something like “water” or “bread” or something like that. Doesn't really count, though. ;D

I still use my Great-great-Grandfathers recipe for Beef Jerky, the only difference is I dry it in the oven instead of sun-drying it. We don't get enough really hot days in Germany to sun-dry very well. The Recipe dates to about the civil war, he emigrated to the states in 1849 from Germany.
I think the oldest family recipe I've made is my (late) grandmother's (b. ~1897) apple pie crust, and I would guess that was passed on to her from her mother, and possibly originating in Germany.
I didn't know it could be a threat ! ;D
