The world's oldest shoe dating back 5,500 years has been discovered Apparently this 5,500 some odd year old shoe was still soft when they dug it up out of a pit. The question me then is, what did the original owner use to treat the shoe? I use saddle soap but you still have retreat leather gloves and boots every so often or they get hard. That it was made out of one piece of leather is pretty neat too.
I saw this story, it was pretty neat. In the article I read, the leather was still soft when it was first excavated but it has since started to get hard now that it's exposed to air. It could have been softened by the elements/minerals it was contained in, but the original user also probably used something local to keep it soft.

they said the otzi shoes were a century or so later than these shoes.

Have you tried sheep dung? Because apparently that's why the shoe was so well preserved. ;D

Well if that is the case, I will stick with saddle soap. It smells better at least.Aeth, I am just more bored at work I guess. ;D It also helps that I am taking a break from school right now until I start my final class in September. I dont even have the excuse of school to keep me from surfing anymore.
