ParticipantAnyone else getting a message that IE cannot display…?

KeymasterNo, I just checked using both IE and Firefox and I can access it fine. Did you recently install/change your firewall settings on your computer? You might try temporarily turning off your firewall and then going to CL to see if that works.

ParticipantNo changes to system; tried with f'wall down and same message:Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems More information This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: Internet connectivity has been lost. The website is temporarily unavailable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. There might be a typing error in the address. If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section. For offline usersYou can still view subscribed feeds and some recently viewed webpages. To view subscribed feeds Click the Favorites Center button , click Feeds, and then click the feed you want to view.To view recently visited webpages (might not work on all pages) Click Tools , and then click Work Offline.Click the Favorites Center button , click History, and then click the page you want to view.

KeymasterYou may be experiencing the same problem that I was experiencing when I couldn't log onto WCF not long ago. Here's something else that you can do to narrow down the problem: try logging in through an anonymous proxy server, which allows you to visit a site through a different IP address (however, your cable provider might not like you doing this, but it's only for brief testing purposes so I don't think it would be a problem).Go to: http://www.openallweb.com/ In the reddish box below the two ads, type in the URL of the site: http://www.christian-legacies.com/smf/index.phpCan you see CL? If you can, DO NOT LOG IN TO YOUR CL ACCOUNT!! (your log in information can potentially be picked up by some third party)If you can see the CL site, then you know that it's your IP address that is causing the problem. If you can't see the CL site, then we know it's some other problem.

KeymasterWell, so it does sound like it was the same mysterious problem I was having. The way I got around it was by changing my IP address. Normally, IP addresses change automatically every so often (possibly every few months). There are ways of doing it manually but it might be a little complicated depending on your comfort level with this. You may want to try the instructions here:http://whatismyipaddress.com/staticpages/index.php/how-do-I-change-my-ip-addressHowever, I tried it a few times and it didn't work...eventually I found some other instructions online somewhere that helped me get it changed. I can't remember where I read them, though.

ParticipantSame stuff, different day; no CL… same message. Everything else I do is okay.

KeymasterHmmm….that is odd. I doubt Donnie is doing any tweaking on his end to cause this. Did you try reaching the site via the proxy server again?About the only other thing to do is to get your IP address changed....at least that's the only way I know how to solve it.

ParticipantBack on this am. Seems to be a periodic flaw; seems less likely on my end, eh?
August 29, 2009 at 3:19 pm #16333Phidippides
KeymasterRight, if it's the same problem I was having, the problem isn't coming from your end. I think it has more to do with your internet service provider or the hosting company that owns the server that the site you are trying to get to is on.

ParticipantWally, I have a suggestion: go to the “Favorites” then click on “History” on the drop menu choose sort by date. Go back to any topic where you had access and click there. It should bring you back to the old topic, from there you can go to the Home page and you should get in. This has worked for me in the past. Good Luck!

ParticipantI'll keep that in mind; thanks.

ParticipantWally, sounds like the same thing is happening to you with CL that was happening to me with WCF earlier this spring. It happened to me several times and then mysteriously went away. I have put it down to the Ghost in the Machine until it starts again.

Tried this tactic as I had CL earlier today... no luck. Same ol' cannot display message.
