What are they looking for from Congress? Don't they already have health insurance and workman's comp from their unions? Are they looking for additional compensation?
Did something come up about this recently? I have not heard anything. On second thought, I do seem to remember something about folks from the WTC site wanting lifetime federal health coverage or something similar for respiratory and a whole host of other ailments they claim came from the toxic air around Ground Zero. I have not heard anything about this for a while though.
There is something in Congress right now with Republicans against. I think it is a $6+ billion package. That is the thing about the media. So often headlines are framed with “Republicans oppose XYZ”, but we don't hear their message out there. I imagine there are some good reasons why the Republicans oppose this, but instead they come across as sounding like big meanies. This fits the popular narrative, though, so it works in the media.
So what is it these guys want? Do they want extra compensation on top of their health care? No one, Right or Left, seems to be reporting this accurately.
Their both implying it's a health care issue. If they legitimately don't have health care (which I find hard to believe), then I support the bill. But didn't they already receive compensation from Congress?
Here's a statement from a Republican senator from Foxnews. Apparently it was an attack interview on the Sen. by Shephard Smith.
Looks to me like Coburn has reasonable objections and the bill itself sounds like one of the liberal sure fire things where if you are against it they will paint opponents as uncaring. I am sure the line will go something along the lines of “these people risked there health on 9/11 to save fellow Americans and now the country is turning their back on them.” It doesnt have to make sense, it is Washington politics as usual. Check out the other bills sponsored by Mrs Maloney who sponsored this one. Reading her bio she is a typical liberal whack job who does not miss a beat to spend other peoples money. That kills me when I hear anybody talk about the government as if it has bottomless pockets, that is taxpayer dollars not government dollars. The last time I checked, the government did not turn a profit indeed, it was not even a business.
