I need to start drinking Sam Adams beer.Samuel Adams Advocates American Independence
Courage, then, my countrymen; our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty. Dismissing, therefore, the justice of our cause as incontestable, the only question is, What is best for us to pursue in our present circumstances? The doctrine of dependence on Great Britain is, I believe, generally exploded; but as I would attend to the honest weakness of the simplest of men, you will pardon me if I offer a few words on that subject.
If there is any man so base or so weak as to prefer a dependence on Great Britain to the dignity and happiness of living a member of a free and independent nation, let me tell him that necessity now demands what the generous principle of patriotism should have dictated.
Replace 'Great Britain' with 'US Government' and this pretty much describes today's Left-wing
proREgressives.PhidippidesKeymasterHa! While reading your post I was just thinking something similar to what you said at the end. It makes me think of that other discussion I think we've already had: that the Founding Fathers revolted over less than what we put up with today.Sticking with Sam Adams:
The natural liberty of man is to be free from any superior power on Earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of man, but only to have the law of nature for his rule.
It reminds me of the saying that if everyone were virtuous, there would be no need for rules.
Vulture6ParticipantAnd now, my favorite Sam Adams' quote:
Beer's on the house, boys!
