I made a point of seeing the prequels in the theater. It is the only way to appreciate the special effects, which by the way is the only thing they are good for because the story sucks.
December 11, 2008 at 4:10 pm #20172DonaldBakerParticipantI think Episode III actually turned out to be the best one of them all (of course it should have been after five previous tries). 🙂
December 11, 2008 at 7:52 pm #20173scout1067ParticipantI think Jedi is the best. Those dang Ewoks are just so cute! ;D Plus it is cool when the Emperor gets his due.
December 11, 2008 at 9:46 pm #20174DonaldBakerParticipantHaving watched the Prequels now, I can't look at Darth Vader the same way. He's no longer a towering menace hellbent on destroying the Rebellion…he's now a tragic figure who threw away his life and potential for nothing. It just isn't the same.
December 12, 2008 at 4:25 am #20175scout1067ParticipantI think it is easier to hate him. It is obvious that he was meant for a life of evil, why else would he have been such a precocious little turd?
December 12, 2008 at 9:07 pm #20176DonaldBakerParticipantHe was created by the Dark Side so he really never had a chance to be anything other than that. He did overcome it in the end, but not before doing some very hideous things like slaughtering younglings in the Jedi Temple. Of course I still find the reason for his ultimate turn to the Dark Side unconvincing. Most would have turned after their loved ones died after having tried everything in their power to prevent it. Instead, he embraced evil to learn the power to save others, but had to kill others in order to become strong enough to save the ones he loved. Kind of a stretch isn't it?
December 12, 2008 at 9:09 pm #20177DonaldBakerParticipantBy the way, this thread has been tee-totally hijacked. 🙂 But who wants to talk about Liberal professors anyway? They are the Dark Side as far as I'm concerned. 🙂

I don't think it has been hijacked, Dark side Jedi and liberal professors seem like two sides of the same coin in my book. If we can figure out one we should be able to figure out the other.
December 18, 2008 at 4:09 am #20179StumpfootParticipantSo what your saying is that Vader and the Emperor were both Liberal Democrats seeking to change the current government policies regarding Everything and usher in a more enlightened era of Hybrid Tie Fighter driving, Forests of Endor hugging, Same Ewok Marriage supporting citizens?VOTE FOR CHANGE, VOTE FOR VADER!Do I hear Stormtroopers?
December 18, 2008 at 4:22 am #20180DonaldBakerParticipantSo what your saying is that Vader and the Emperor were both Liberal Democrats seeking to change the current government policies regarding Everything and usher in a more enlightened era of Hybrid Tie Fighter driving, Forests of Endor hugging, Same Ewok Marriage supporting citizens?VOTE FOR CHANGE, VOTE FOR VADER!Well actually Lucas is a Democrat (ideologically at least) so his villains would do things that he would attach to Republicans. So Cheney is the Emperor and Bush is Vader and the Patriot Act = Order 66. And with this post the spooks will be looking up my ISP. 🙂Do I hear Stormtroopers?
December 18, 2008 at 10:31 am #20181scout1067ParticipantIt could definitely be argued that Vader and Palpatine were agents of change. They eliminated the stifling bureaucracy of democratic rule and replaced it with dictatorial efficiency. It remains to be seen if the legacy of the dark side will continue with the incoming administration.... thinking further CODE PINK could count as stormtroopers, they certainly act as though they are descendants of the stormtroopers or perhaps the SA
December 18, 2008 at 1:25 pm #20182StumpfootParticipantAs I was writing it I just couldnt bring myself to picture Vader holding hands with an Ewok while skipping through the forests of Endor. No Donald, you are safe...you said Bush and Cheney were bad...Thats good.By the way, why did you say Cheney was the Emperor?

He's the older of the two and has more political experience. He is the brains behind the Neocon foreign policy. Bush is really the Emperor's Hand enforcing the agenda. He also was once a part of the light side, but fell to the Dark Side as he began to subvert our civil liberties and to nationalize our banking/auto industries. All to become strong enough in the Dark Side to save his legacy. 🙂
December 19, 2008 at 7:06 am #20184StumpfootParticipantMaybe you should have written the screenplay for the last three installments.
December 19, 2008 at 11:44 am #20185scout1067ParticipantDon,You have obviously given this a lot of thought. Which could be slightly disturbing, if you think about it or just a sign that you have too much time on your hands.
