Does anyone know where this story came from? I am guessing it was believed to be the source of the gold that he used in the Temple, although I just recently read the chapters in 1 Kings covering Solomon's life, and I don't recall any mention of mines.
King Solomon's Mines is a novel by Sir H. Rider Haggard in 1885.Or it can refer to an ancient copper-production center at Khirbat en-Nahas (present-day southern Jordan) where archaeologists have excavated new artifacts. Radiocarbon dates placing the bulk of industrial-scale production at Khirbat en-Nahas in the 10th century BCE ? in line with biblical narrative on the legendary rule of David and Solomon.http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/10/081027174545.htm http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/newsrel/general/11-23Archaeologist.asp
But wasn't there a “search” for Solomon's mines? I'm thinking of something along the lines of the quest for the Holy Grail.

I didn't find anything about Solomon's mines and Arthurian legends, except the pentangle on Gawain's shieldhttp://csis.pace.edu/grendel/projs992b/CharAnalisys.htm
