Here are two disasters from history containing food products:London Beer Flood of 1814
...a huge vat containing over 135,000 gallons of beer ruptured, causing other vats in the same building to succumb in a domino effect. As a result, more than 323,000 gallons of beer burst out and gushed into the streets. The wave of beer destroyed two homes and crumbled the wall of the Tavistock Arms pub, trapping the barmaid under the rubble.
Boston Molasses Disaster of 1919
A large molasses tank burst and a wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 mph (56 km/h), killing 21 and injuring 150.
Both involved fatalities and are rather strange when you think about them. Are there any other events like this that you can think of?
