I'm watching “The Tudors”, which aired about 5-6 years ago on Showtime.  I'm still on season one.  Anyone watch it?  It's got its ups and downs, and I suppose because it's a Showtime production, it is presented in an “adult” manner.  One of the things that I shake my head at because of the anachronism involved is the “sexualization” of the characters.  None of the characters seem to contemplate whether their decisions to sleep around are right or wrong…it's only a matter of getting caught (if that).  It's as if the characters could walk off set and be just as comfortable living in sixteenth century England as they could in twenty first century Hollywood.  Otherwise, some of the drama is pretty good.

It had excellent and silly moments but always better than reality TV, silly sitcoms, and hour cop/lawyer/MD dramas with crappy actors who lack presence and basic diction. Henry VIII not physically accurate but I became used to it after a while.

True – I was accustomed to his look based which seemed like he was more of a robust, square-jawed figure….not so scrawny.  Still, I think that Jonathan Rhys Meyers carries the series as someone who walks the line between supreme ruler who demands complete obedience/respect while having everything else affirm that his decisions are right and just.  They certainly could have chosen a better actress for Anne Boleyn, though.  Some years ago I saw a movie from the 60s/70s on Henry's relationship with Anne Boleyn, and she was portrayed much better as someone who was flirty, didn't take crap – the kind of girl who I could see being a realistic match for the king.  Don't remember the name of that movie, though.
