The tombstone to a relative (I believe the deceased father-in-law of her brother) was recently discovered buried under the yard at the Emily Dickinson home by workers who were trying to improve water flow on the property. See it here.There's a bit of a mystery involved:
But exactly what Gen. Thomas Gilbert's headstone was doing under 18 inches of dirt in Dickinson's front yard has some experts stumped ? especially knowing that his remains are buried in a nearby cemetery with a more ornate grave marker.
However, as the story explains, the answer to the mystery might already by known.
Wonder why they moved him.
