The retirement of Sen. Frank Lautenberg means there will no longer be any World War II veterans in the Senate (not sure if any are still in the House). The link below has a graph showing the number of WWII vets in the Senate over the past few decades.The page also shows a graph of the number of overall percent of veterans in Congress. Interestingly, today we are at our lowest point in the past 60-70 years. Is it a coincidence that as fewer and fewer vets occupy elected office, Congress becomes more and more dysfunctional?The day World War II left the Senate (in two charts)
The last bit of the article says there are still two WWII vets in the House, Reps. Ralph Hall (R-Texas) and John Dingell (D-Mich.). I would like to know how many vets total are in congress and in which wars they served. That would be an interesting number I think.
