I'm worried going into the game. This will be our third time to the NFC Championship game in the past 12 years and the previous two times have ended up in losses. But on any given Sunday…you know how it goes.
Indeed. ;D Funny, but we all knew he was coming back. Most high-caliber athletes who continue to compete into old age don't like to hang it up while they're still good. Jordan kept on playing for a while because he knew he could still play pretty well. Favre had an awesome year last year. If Favre had sucked last year, he might not have decided to come back this year.
I just don't get all this anti-Favre press about him (other than from Green Bay). They guy is not a diva nor an egomaniac. It's not like he was seeking out the press or looking for attention (like Lebron James's one hour special about himself ::) ), the press came after him. I'm sure money has a lot to do with his decision, but it should be clear to everyone that Favre just wants to play football.
Well, I think people think – and I do happen to agree with this – that there is an excessive amount of drama that comes along with Favre. Some of it is his own making, but most is probably the media doing the hype.Think about it - last year he wasn't at training camp and came back with only one preseason game left. The word was that he didn't want to go through a training camp, staying in dorms and stuff. So did we really think that he would want to go through a training camp this year? On one hand, it's not good to have everyone on the team have to go through camp except for one player. In 99% of the time, that one player would be despised for that for really bad sportsmanship, be labeled a diva, he would be fined by the team or kicked off, etc. But on the other hand, you have Favre, a first ballot hall-of-famer, holder of most or all of the major passing records in the NFL, so he has way more leeway than your average player. The bottom line is that he really doesn't need a long training camp. So he does his yearly pondering of retirement right around camp time, and it kind of seems like a technicality (though obviously we can't read what's truly in his heart and mind) because by now we know the guy enough to know that he want to win and will be back.Sports needs drama to thrive - a story behind the action on the field. That's why people will tune in to a Lebron James "who will I be signing with?" episode on TV, or any game now with Tim Tebow playing, or pretty much anything Brett Favre. If I didn't like sports, these stories would annoy me. Fortunately for me, I do like sports. 🙂
I see your point, but I still think most of the “drama” is from the press. (he must be a conservative, because he sure is attacked like one) Yes, all players should show up at training camp, but he is Captain America afterall. Besides, he's there now. BTW, I added a purple Favre #4 t-shirt to my memorabilia collection in commemoration of his 20th season.Did you know that he is the only player in history who has beaten every team in pro football?
I have thought of a movie that could be made about some hallowed pro athlete on the brink of retirement, one who is already in his sport's hall of fame for all practical purposes. The movie would be about all the circus that he endures off the field. But I would depart with reality because I would have the guy's talents regressing toward the very end while he still lives with the “aura” of his earlier years. I guess I'm still working on the screenplay. ;D

Yeah, he only did it last year when Minnesota beat Green Bay. ;D
