ParticipantHere is a site that lists, with links, all the things that Global Warming is claimed to cause. The Warmlist. A pretty extensive list of things that my driving a pickup truck is going to cause, I think I may have to go pick up a Chevy Volt. ;D

ParticipantIt is not a scientific theory but a religion. If they just believe enough it will be so.

That is an awesome list. Global warming is a goldmine for left-leaning politicos is because of its enigmatic nature, which means that it can be the scapegoat for problems with other causes (natural or artificial). And we know that when there is an issue this big, the only real way to address it is for a global governing force (aka communism) to step in and tell the people how to live. One wonders what all our problems would be based on if we didn't have global warming. 😉

You might get an idea with the global food prices rise. Of course many reasons can explain that rise: speculation, a fast-growing world population and the increased demand for biofuels. Among these reasons you also have a concern about environmental issues, especially "unpredictable weather".The price of wheat in particular has risen sharply. This is because wildfires last year in Russia, which accounts for 11% of global exports, resulted in an export ban. The recent floods in Australia, which also accounts for 11% of global exports, has compounded the problem. Droughts in Argentina, the world's second biggest exporter of corn behind the US, have also pushed the price up. Another element is inflation in the prices of other key commodities like copper and oil.Fate ?

ModeratorMakes me wonder if we should leave immigration alone for a while. We need the low-wage workers.

KeymasterI bring this up here first by mentioning the seriousness of the Japanese situation and all the bad news we're hearing about it. One would think that its occurrence is just a fact of life – a natural event that happens from time to time, without much warning at all, and no one to blame.Just now I read the article, Monster aftershock could strike within days, and got to the final paragraph: "Dr McCue dismissed suggestions that melting glaciers due to global warming could escalate the earthquake risk."Is it just me, or does the fact that this kind of question was even asked make you want to roll your eyes?

ModeratorYes it does, but I think the allegations of AGW-caused earthquakes originated with twitter which I read a few days ago. If any geologist is tying GW to earthquakes, he or she should immediately have their license or degree revoked.

ParticipantYou did not know that AGW was omnipotent and omniscient did you? 😉 I am waiting from some Gaia types to say that the earthquake and subsequent problems at the nuke plants is the planet telling us to not use nuclear power.

ModeratorFound this article interestingArctic ozone loss at record levelParticularly these two sentences:
The cause was an unusually long spell of cold weather at altitude
It was continuously cold from December through April, and that has never happened before in the Arctic in the instrumental record.

ParticipantThey sound like statements of pure forehead slapping stupidity don't they? What do we expect to come from the media though?

ParticipantScience is religion. Heretics are excommunicated for challenging orthodoxy. Vindicated Israeli physicist wins Nobel Prize yet was forced out his research group in 1982 and savagely attacked by Linus Pauling for his theory. Cannot trust GW conventional (lack of) wisdom because of that.
