ParticipantCan be a war movie, a war fiction, or simply a movie set during that era that clearly relates to it.My favorite film of all time may be Casablanca but there are many others, including Bridge on the River Kwai, Stalingrad, and Schindler's List to name some.

KeymasterGood question.? My vote would probably be Schindler's List as well.? Following that, I think that Saving Private Ryan is up there also, as well as The Pianist, The Great Escape, Casablanca, Patton, The Scarlet and the Black, and Band of Brothers (ok, not really a “movie”).? Raiders of the Lost Ark is also pretty darn good, even though the War is more of a backdrop than anything else.In terms of worst WWII movie, I think this might be Jacob the Liar.

ParticipantSaving private Ryan is excellent. Speaking of casablanca I just got the two disc special edition and loved it, if your a fan you have to get it.

KeymasterI thought that the first scene of entry onto Omaha Beach (or was it Utah?) was painful, but very good movie-making. It kind of overshadowed the rest of the movie.

ParticipantPatton was the best WWII movie IMHO.

KeymasterI saw a movie – I think it was made for TV – about MacArthur's life which I thought was pretty good. If I remember correctly he was played by Gregory Peck. Of course, it's not quite the classic that Patton has become.

ParticipantIf you mean combat movie – Saving Private Ryan is the hands down winner for the infantry while 12 O'Clock High is the best for the air war. Schindler's List is the most effective at conveying what the war was about and for shoot-'em-up-bang-bang fun it's hard to beat Errol Flynn in Burma Road.

ParticipantWhat about Band of Brothers? I guess that would be more of a mini series than a movie. I have never seen it all the way through, just snippets here and there and it looked interesting.

KeymasterBand of Brothers was very good. I didn't know I'd enjoy it so much. The assault on Market Garden was interesting, as was the entrenchment in the forest (can't remember the name). The actors did a fine job.
