Architecture for the masseshttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-13979860 After Le Corbusier, that kind of architecture became radically different. For better or worse ?
I think modern architecture has become much more a function of economics, and therefore has become “worse” in an aesthetic sense. However, it has become far more functional than it had been. Replacing the supremacy of form for that of function....how does one weigh the two?I will say this - like art, architecture has become more of an esoteric project which has causes a disconnect with the masses. Perhaps not as much as art (since the masses can simply avoid art, whereas they can't avoid architecture if they need to enter it!) but architects on the "cutting edge" push the envelope too far for society's own good. One should be able to recognize a church as being a church, even if in modern form, since it should carry on forms which identify it as such. Pushing aside the entire tradition, or breaking from it too much, only serves to harm the relationship between society and architecture.
