ParticipantThey pointed them in the general direction and let fly. The accuracy of the V1 and V2 was atrocius and they did pretty good to hit London. Both wepoans hd a crude gyroscope guidance system that could generaly keep them flying straight but that was about it.
That's correct for the V1 but it was a little more sophisticated for the ballistic missile: two free gyroscopes (a horizontal and a vertical) for lateral stabilization, and a PIGA accelerometer to control engine cutoff at a specified velocity (source: Mike Konshak - mechanical engineer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph-npS29n9Q ) *Otherwise, Scout is quite correct: it was not so high tech about range or guidance but the concept itself

ParticipantOn an unrelated note, when I was in Rome a few years ago I was surprised to discover that the Catholic church is still selling indulgences. This is a practice I had thought stoppped a few hundred years ago, but we happened upon a cathedral where you could purchase an indulgence. I was so surprised I took a picture of the sign, which I cannot find any more.
Catholics may be able to earn "indulgences" partly by following the Pope's Twitter feed, it's been reported. For which of these activities are indulgences not granted?1. Climbing Santa Scala on knees?2. Watching Pope's TV mass?3. Pilgrimage to Lourdes?Find more here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-23367641

ParticipantDoes anyone even read these news blurbs anymore? Not sure that they do. They may be superfluous.
news blurbs: I still look at it (even if I've long given up to find the "menu du jour") and I think it can be useful especially for visitors or new members

ParticipantMy biggest problem is that I do not suffer fools gladly. Being a Drill Sergeant was ok because I could control the turds. You have nothing like that kind of control in a normal classroom.
Ever tried PsyWar ?
