ParticipantWhatever people can say, write or comment, that's all about conjectures. Hue and cry is useless at this stage. Unless you know the truth …

ParticipantSoon, they are going to replace every instance of the word ?rape? in The Color Purple with ?unfortunate sexual happening.? ??? (source: The Onion)Seriously, I don't get the usefulness to change the work of an author (writer, painter (eg Daniele da Volterra "Il Braghettone" ("the breeches maker") with Michelangelo's Last Judgement) for any reason. That's unjustifiable.

That's actually a cool story. I wonder if the people who cracked the code relied on historical information on how codes were produced during the Civil War, or if they deciphered it on its own.
The code is called the "Vigenere cipher", a centuries-old encryption in which letters of the alphabet are shifted a set number of places so an 'a' would become a 'd' ~ essentially, creating words with different letter combinations. The code was widely used by Southern forces during the Civil War, according to Civil War Times Illustrated.http://www.thestatesman.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=353593&catid=37 http://www.simonsingh.net/The_Black_Chamber/vigenere_cracking.html

ParticipantOne wonders what all our problems would be based on if we didn't have global warming. 😉
You might get an idea with the global food prices rise. Of course many reasons can explain that rise: speculation, a fast-growing world population and the increased demand for biofuels. Among these reasons you also have a concern about environmental issues, especially "unpredictable weather".The price of wheat in particular has risen sharply. This is because wildfires last year in Russia, which accounts for 11% of global exports, resulted in an export ban. The recent floods in Australia, which also accounts for 11% of global exports, has compounded the problem. Droughts in Argentina, the world's second biggest exporter of corn behind the US, have also pushed the price up. Another element is inflation in the prices of other key commodities like copper and oil.Fate ?

ParticipantAnother helpful clue : “Created by Colonel Guy de la Vasselais, the “Freedom road” retraces the route taken by General Patton?s 3rd Army from the Sainte-M?re-Eglise to Bastogne. All along this way are kilometer markers.”

ParticipantBut see this on the front page:Beginning December 29 and for a limited time only, premium access, normally requiring a premium subscription, will be free. Unfortunately, it didn't give me an option to select the premium account without paying. So maybe the site has its own kinks to work out.
You're right, I registered but no free option available although I can now have access to the different articles. Perhaps this was the free offer ?!

Participant“Premium articles are only available through a paid subscription.” $9 per year or $1.35 per month. However you have access to most of the articles.
