ParticipantJoe Bastardi, a meteorologist and long time opponent to Gore & GW, holds the position that GW is caused by sun spots and the trend is actually moving toward a drop in global temps.http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/09/10/accuweathers-joe-bastardi-makes-mincemeat-of-greenpeace-claim-that-california-wildfires-are-caused-by-global-warming/Carbon Credit, on its face is bogus logic. Isn't the whole concern over polluting that we irreversably damage the earth? How you can you throw money at a whole in the ozone? Do you think hollywood weirdos are going to give up their mansions and private planes? No. They will presume to tell lesser beings, like my grandparents, how much they can spend on health care.

ParticipantIt is interesting, even though there are no revelations here. Most digs are garbage heaps, what is thrown away, is left with a cross section of deposits. Looking through someone's garbage can tell you alot about them. Like how much money they make, how many people live in a household and if they eat well. Or in this case, what you were smoking.

Participant'Barley men' it must have been very keen observation or very good instincts, that helped find the right diets for fighters. Who is the go to guy for ancient Roman dietary preferences, please? Anybody?

ParticipantWouldn't it be great to find something like that? 🙂 I think I would pass out.

ParticipantIf they still make Marathon Bars, I will eat one.

ParticipantSkiguy, do you think the Brits saved the Elgin Marbles from being destroyed?

ParticipantOne of the Brit paras was killed, that is sad. Didn't the NYT jump on the Drudge bandwagon in outing Prince Harry's command in Afghanistan? Its striking, shocking and blatant disregard. Thank God I can type because I'm speechless.

ParticipantIts strange, I guess it depends on the artifact. Athens has been fighting with the British Royal something or other over the Elgin Marbles for decades. They are beautiful reliefs that the Brits aquired when the Ottomans were sacking Greece, early 1900's. Greece spent gobs of money to build a museum to house them, since Britain first argued that they had no place to keep them. Now the Brits still refuse to give them up on the grounds that every picayune civilization from here to Timbuktu will be demanding their ancient artifacts back. This will not do. ;D

ParticipantThanks for posting that Scout. The absurdity of it all!Obama loves to feed the fire for labor unions about the long suffering teachers, paramedics, doctors and nurses. Along the way he ignores the horrible conditions for our soldiers in Afghanistan and forgets that the military men and women are the ones who really lay it all on the line. George Will has said that the war should be fought off shore using drones, because its about to become another war run by democrats in Washington. McCrystal? Is he the NATO commander in charge? I wouldn't know I never hear from him. I heard from Gen. Patreus just about every week when he was in charge.

ParticipantI am not convinced that the government will be able to pay my military pension in a few years or if they can, it wont be worth anything.
The generation that is being raised by former kids of the Carter admin. will be more like us than the Woodstock generation. Think of it, the kids who lived through the depression grew up to be savers and valued everyday things, taking nothing for granted. Their kids rebelled and were pulled into the more, more, more culture. I think my generation is raising the next to be savers and to appreciate little things. I have HOPE.

ParticipantThere needs to be some kind of meat whether it be red-meat, chicken or fish dor a meal to be complete. That's what I was alluding to. I guess not very successfully.
Thanks Nkuler, that answers my question. Thats how we approach meals here generally, unless you are a vegan.Scout! Back in the saddle again, glad you enjoyed the trip.

ParticipantMy guess would be that we have had more interaction with the middle eastern cuisine. Other than that I have no idea it was just an observation, and not one that I thoght was particularly interesting. Why do you think it's interesting?
Nkuler, I wondered whether there were religious/fastings directives, or was there more of an an abundance due to better grazing for the animals in Turkey. As you say the contact with middle east traders via the Black Sea could have meant breeding opportunities to produce more diverse blood lines and more healthy animals. The countries of the Mediterranean also have the many friut bearing trees and Turkey produces a huge amount of figs, although not everywhere in the country.(correct?) Often resources are sold to European and other markets before they are distributed country wide.Â
