Something of a 'blue sky” answer on my part but seems likely that less would have been req'd than the end run through the Low Countries”… given that the Germans had seven field armies in the west at the time… could have held the French. So too, the French didn't fare too well at the Battle of Mulhouse: 45K French (7th Corps + a reserve brigade and the 8th Cav Div) against 30K Germans XIV and XV Corps). This was their push into Alsace / Lorraine. Had they not had to contend with the “end run” they might have committed more troops and your scenerio could have materialized.Tough to say….

I agree… merely holding against a French mobilization would have allowed them to put more into the eastern front and the results could have been far different in the long run. England would have been less prompt in responding since france wopuld have (in this case) been seen by many as the agressor.

Yes I'm reading this thread attentively. :)If you want feedback from the class, you will have to openly ask them.  Otherwise they will clam up and just try to regurgitate what you are feeding them, and that nullifies the class experience.

Not always… some will seek you out to “compare notes”… like most of us here, methinks. Key is being open to them, trying to see individuals not just the sea of faces.

Public schools (high school then middle school) a variety of subjects but mostly history. The fact that most of my students are grandchildren of Viet Nam vets (or dodgers) even that is older than Egypt to them… far too far before their time. Trying to find something that will hook them required flexibility and the ability to tie current events to the historical periods we were covering. Sometimes easier, somethimes harder.Watch teir eyes and try to have the room situated so the clock is behind them… failing that pick out one that is clock-watching and ask them: “How am I doing for time?” ;D

Next year you won't have to do that as you are saving your lectures and slides. Bwhahahahahahahahahah!!!!

Yeah, I'll probably be teaching the same class in the Spring.  So it will be 75% easier.  Muahahahaahahahaha!!!

You may find that, while you start with the same basic material, the students will bring a different enough mindset that you will need to tailor presentation to them. Not a for sure as many profs use the same exact notes semester after semester (short time frame) but where I taught year long classes much had happened to alter outlooks. Just my $0.02.

…. Of course, she just got me the DVD set  ;DI guess “Crusade in Europe” and “World At War” are next in line for modernization!

Quite a lady; in a word, a keeper. Dinner with the works at her favorite, at least!

In my experience those that need extra credit usually won't do it. students that will go the extra mile are likely getting the A anyway; however there are those that just can't quite do it up right (the perpetual B+) and need the boost. I used to offer bonus credit (yeah it was usually a bit harder) if a student really wanted to insure the A or boost passed the B+ they'd go for it.The good thing was most passed on it since it required more… those that did it well got a small boost and learned more… win / win.

Just my small view; pre-history to history is likely the watershed of the discovery / invention of agriculture. Modern era watershed, the Renaissance-Reformation.

On that; only reasons to wear BB cap b'wards: catcher on the team, welder (when under hood), or looking through the periscope of a submarine.  ;DThose that think it cool to wear sideways, in my youth, were likely retarded… maybe today too?  😮
