I was reading the paper yesterday and couldn't help but remember the old Chinese curse:
May you live in Interesting times
. It seems to me that we are living in days that are as momentous for the future course of the world as were the 1860's, 1930's or 1790's. I was just wondering if anyone else shares these sentiments as well? There are so many things going on in the world at so many different levels that I think it wil take ten to fifteen for everything to sake itself out and the world my grandchildren live in will have as little relationship to the present as today does to antebellum or pre-WWII America or Monarchist France.
I too feel these are dramatic times, but then again I have thought this about past times as well. And couldn't this have been said about a lot of times in the past? Throughout the Cold War we feared that a nuclear launch could occur at whatever moment, thereby altering the course of the planet.
I agree with Phid on this. But there sure does seem to be a lot of things happening lately that can have a global effect. It seems Eastern Europe is a cauldron, the rejection of the Lisbon Treaty (what is this going to mean for the EU?), the earthquakes, floods, etc.
