Just curious what is peoples all time favourite piece of wartime technology? It can be domestic or military. I love the old style domestic radios...i've attached a picture (hopefully).
Interesting. Do you own them, or are you selling those? I suppose they don’t work anymore, do they? They are not mine - they belong to a local museum..they have an even larger collection of those domestic radios. I am just a member of the charity. They also do restorations too. I have lots of photos of other wartime artefacts too...such as telephones...things like skeleton and reliance telephones - those are pretty cool by the way! 🙂
The M1 Garand Rifle is pretty cool.Edited because I don't know where that swastika picture came from. Sorry about that. Must have linked it incorrectly.
Was the Kalishnikov in service by the spring of 1945?
NO, it was not. It did not enter widespread Russian service until 1949 I believe. During the war I think some experimental versions were built but it did not enter full-scale production until after the war. As it is the Russians still had some of the best submachineguns of the war. However, the Germans built the best infantry arm and first assault rifle in history. The MP44/Sturmgewehr 44 is recognizably an assault rifle and it is probably a good thing for the allies that they were not produced in sufficient quantities to replace the old but venerable K98 in front-line service.
