Paul Newman passed away today at the age of 83. I always liked him, he'll be missed. He leaves behind qiute a body of work: The Hustler, Hud, Cool Hand Luke, among many others.
I enjoyed his work in Cool Hand Luke. "To that I say no man can eat 50 eggs".
I always think of Hud… just like Steve McQueen is Eustis P. Clay (Soldier in the Rain); some movies are best in B/W….
He and his wife were married 50 years…You just dont see that anymore, especially in Hollywood.
“Little by little the look of the country changes because of the men we admire. You're just going to have to make up your own mind one day about what's right and wrong.” This was a line that Melvyn Douglas had as Homer Bannon (the father) in Hud, 1963; works today as a tribute to Newman and a admonition concerning others, don't you think?
Kind of says it all, does it not? But that was a character – Newman was much more, more than most of us can ever hope to be. RIP.
