Here is a nice map I found while randomly surfing today.  It is also quite instructive.  It is a comparison between voting patterns in last years presidential election and cotton production in the American ca. 1860.  A very interesting correlation exists between cotton production and the voting pattern.  It is on general though as all cotton producing areas did not vote Democrat.  But very interesting nonthe less.  the original can be found here:From Pickin?
