To Cut Global Warming, Swedes Study Their Plates this is the latest bit of CC/GW looneyness I have seen. It popped up on drudge today, i cant wait for the post-modern types to take this and run with. I wonder if they will apply cap-and-trade to food as well and give individuals a carbon allotment or that too much for even the Democrats?
Another feel-good measure put forth by green-types. Kind of like that "go to the bathroom before the plane takes off" thing we heard about not long ago. Possibly too much information here - I actually know how much my bladder can hold, and when I really have to go it's about 1.2 or 1.4 pounds of "liquid". Now, I'm about 6'1", 190-195 lbs.....not the biggest guy on the block, but probably bigger than at least 60-70% of the people who will ride on a plane. I figured that if I went to the bathroom before takeoff (assuming I "really had to go"), and everyone else had full bladders and went before takeoff, it would still reduce the weight of the plane by what...1 lb. per person? Couldn't the plane much more easily remove 200 lbs. by removing that push cart that serves meals, or cans of soft drinks? How about removing any extra seats that aren't used from the plane before takeoff? Bottom line that I see - we're seeing all these elaborate ways to "be green", but they seem more like gimmicks to me than anything else.
This is going to be the next value added tax scam… each step in the production, transportation, processing, packaging, and distribution will add to the carbon footprint until (possibly already) we will produce more pounds of carbon than of product. So I guess we should all just harvest our lawns (use push mowers, please) and have salad. Oh sorry, having a lawn means we need water… all those nasty electric pumps that are powered by the grid that is fed by the coal or NG fired power plants. Good think in CA we have hydro-power… sorry that messes up the streams and effs up the fish runs.Time I guess to crawl into a hole and give our nutrients back to the soil.

True...I wonder, though, will the people exempt from these kinds of regulations be the green celebrities and others who are messengers for eco-radicalism? Seems like the mega-rich liberals who promote this cause aren't the ones who have to change their lifestyles from a material standpoint....they simply pay a bit more to do things the "green" way, as they can afford it. Meanwhile, the average joes who aren't rich would have to make the lifestyle changes/sacrifices if all these eco-regs were implemented.
As one who is < 5'6", I think tall people should pay more for their carbon footprints. j/k ;DSeriously, I'm very cheap and therefore way below average for carbon usage. But you knwo what? They'll STILL tax/penalize me. This green garbage is getting way out of hand and I think average, and dare I say most, people could care less. Most are too busy being concerned with making ends meet or looking for a job. I do hope the Democrats do something foolishingly pro-green, then it's almost a certainty they'll lose 2010 and 2012.
Yes, a fact that I'm proud of. 😀I think the average height of a hoplite was 5'6-5'8 or something close. I'd probably be the shorter guy in the back throwing rocks.

The big time greenies won't because they are just more equal than we are... they are few and we are many, so, their huge impact is less than our combined small impacts. We don't matter! [To them]

You hit the nail on the head there. As soon as I read your comment I thought of "Animal Farm". ;DThe sad fact is that those who can least afford it will be affected by the GW crowd. The super rich will simply pay a little more and ignore green regulations. Much like the super rich will simply pay a little more in taxes to keep the proles quiet and fed with more bread and entertained with more circuses. Face it there is not much difference between paying 1 or 2% more in taxes out of an income of 7 figures. They will assuage their hypocrisy with money.
