I was reading about the Congressional election in New York for tomorrow and found out that the Republican has dropped out of the race and it is now a race between a Conservative Party candidate and the Democrat. This enticed me to look at the Conservative Party web page where I found this document.[urlhttp://www.conservativepartyusa.com/CPUSA-Natl-PDF-PDF.pdf]Conservative Party[/url]. The Conservative party is very intriguing and especially their national party plank
“to reestablish the limits and boundaries of Government as framed by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America.”
I dont know how more to the point you can get. My big question is are we seeing the next Log Cabin party forming with the Conservative party? Or are they just going to be a flash in the pan?

My concern is not just do they have the fortitude to prevail, but also; do they have the understanding of what the Constitution really establishes... limits and all?
Thomas Jefferson: On every question of construction [of the Constitution] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or intended against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.

You do realize, do you not, that the Log Cabin Republicans is the gay group? 😮 Though I'm guessing you were using "Log Cabin" to refer to 1840....But I'm not so sure about "breaking off" into a third party. In theory it is probably much better to have multiple parties rather than the two-party system we have right now. A Conservative Party would also reflect the values of conservatives than the Republican Party does, and so it would provide a more "pure" political ideology to the table. But I think the practicalities of the situation may simply be too large. How long would you want conservatives to be out of power while the other more liberal parties run America? You'd basically have the Democrat Party being the sole "superparty" that would run the country while conservatives tried to gain steam to elect a few candidates here and there.
I am talking about the Log Cabin Republicans of 1854 that founded the party on an anti-slavery, laissez faire economic model. I dont particularly care about someones sexual orientation until they start trying to force me to affirm their actions in contravention of my own beliefs. They can do what they want but I dont have to tell them that they are right if I think they are wrong and immoral.I would love to see a multitude of parties in america on both the left and right. There is no way that political beliefs are a 50%-50% solution set. I would guess there is room for around 30 parties with 5 or six major parties similar to the way things are in Europe. My wife said there were 32 parties on the German ballot for the September elections. 6 parties got the majority of votes but every party got some votes. There is even a Pirates Party that advocates for free downloading and file-sharing. They got 2% of the vote too.I definitely think there is room for more parties across the political spectrum. Just the splits within the parties now prove that. I think the Blue Dogs could form a viable party. The center is underrepresented in America. We need more parties to increase political inclusiveness.
I was joking about the Log Cabin remark…I figured you were referring to the older group, not the modern one. Anyway, I didn't realize there were so many political parties on European ballots. I knew there were more than in the U.S., just not that many. I'm afraid that in the U.S., it's almost like a Mexican standoff; whichever side blinks first (conservative or liberal) by breaking up, the other side will take advantage and take power. If everyone's political memory was all of a sudden erased, then I think the situation could work. You'd have people forming parties according to shared ideology and no single party would contain close to 50% of the populace.

Some of the political parties over here are hilarious. In addition to the Piraten Partei, there is a car drivers party, Die Violetten, a spiritualist party, The Bavarian party that wants Bavaria to Secede, and last but not least the Franken Party which wants Franconia to seced from Bavaria and be its own Bundesland. My wife is from Franken. There is a mostly complete list on Wikipedia( :-[I know, but it is useful sometimes when you are not doing academic work :-[)German Parties. Oh, and I should not forget the NDP or National Democrat Party, you guys should recognize them by another name(Nazis). they are the successor party to the NSDAP or Nazi's. There political posters are full of pictures of Blonde, big-bosomed women and stern looking guys and talk about making Germany strong by getting rid of foriegners.

That is the rub right there. I am positive you are correct and whichever side does not blink will gather the reins of power to themselves and then we really would be looking at a revolution. That being said, I hope alternative parties succeed. I for one, will never vote for a major party candidate because they are a major party candidate, I will vote my principles and not vote based on perceived electability. Perhaps if enough people do the same we will see true representative government in this country again.
