The London Daily Telegraph is running a five part series listing who they consider the most influential conservatives and liberals in America. It is an interesting list to say the least, can't say that I agree with it 100% though. The most influential US conservatives: 100-81 I dont think I would put Lindsay Graham, John Huntsman Jr., or Peggy Noonan on the list. The most influential US liberals: 100-81 I would put Carter, Chris Matthews, and George Soros higher on the list than 96, 92, & 86. Soros pours money into Democratic cofferes giving him quite a bit of influence. If nothing else this is an intersting look at American politics from outsiders.
I think they came out with the same kind of list a year or two ago. I remember being slightly disgusted with the list as it got toward #1. Sometimes I wonder if kinds of lists are meant to drive public opinion as much as they reflect it.
I think they do it every year. I don't put a lot of stock in such lists but it is kind of an interesting exercise to how people outside of America think. One thing I have learned in Europe is that people over here at least actually pay quite a bit of attention to American politics, sometimes I think more than the average American. It also seems like they all have opinions about what we should do, even on domestic issues that you would think they would not care about. I am guessing there domestic focus is due in part to the EU and them getting used to foreigners telling them how to run their country.
Here are parts 2 & 3 of the lists. They are interesting to say the least. The most influential US conservatives: 80-61, The most influential US conservatives: 60-41The most influential US liberals: 80-61, The most influential US liberals: 60-41I am actually kind of interested to see who they think the top 20 are. I am almost willing to bet that Obama will not be the # 1 liberal, I kind of think it will be Pelosi. It is curious that they call olympia Snow a conservative, the best I could say for her is moderate. My favorite Columnist Victor Hanson made it to # 68, he is also a great classical historian. They call Arnold a conservative, now that is funny although if you are British he probably does look conservative.Apparently the Obama's dog is a liberal because he made #80 on the list. That is actually kind of sad if you think about it, they couldn't find a human for a spot so they picked a dog. Colin Powell is in the liberral camp where he belongs, slightly more influential than the dog. They have specter on the right, or should I say Left list though.
These should be called most influential Democrats or Republicans rather than liberals and conservatives, because some of these so-called conservatives are not.
Well here the lists for 40-21:The most influential US conservatives: 40-21 and The most influential US liberals: 40-21Lieberman made #29 on the conservative list and Breitbart is #21. I would have figured Breitbart to be higher, especially after he stung ACORN last year.I think it is Funny that Biden only made it to #21. He should probably be even lower than that though since the administration has pretty much muzzled him because he is an idiot and proves it every time he opens his mouth.
I would put Thune in the top 10. (Thune/Palin 2012 anyone?) David Brooks, Leiberman, Steele…these aren't conservatives. Keep posting these, scout, but this list is a joke. Well, at least the liberal list is accurate. :-
Here are the top 20 on both sides. The most influential US conservatives: 20-1The most influential US liberals: 20-1I think the top 3 conservatives are in the right order, Drudge, Limbaugh, and Cheney at # 1. That seems about right to me. I might put drudge ahead of Limbaugh but am not sure.I would put Pelosi # 1 on the lib list. She seems to be driving the train in Washington more than Bumbling Obama. As I said, this is interesting to see a take on politics that is not American. Of course, a British conservative anymore would be a liberal in the States.
That lib list should be retitled “The biggest idiots/criminals in the history of the USA”Glad to see Palin in the top 5, but she should be #1 And hopefully after Jan 19, we'll see Scott Brown in the top 10.
