Kudos to whoever is responsible for the design of this forum. It is easy to use, forgiving of errors andeasily navigated. It is a pleasure to play in this sandbox.WillyD
Well we'll have to than the people over at Simple Machine Forums for that (that's the forum software we're using). I should add here that the design may change a bit in the next few weeks as I follow what Donnie has done and upgrade this forum to a more recent software version.
You will like the 2.0 version of SMF better. The upgrade is very easy. Just download the latest version, upload all the files into your current directories replacing the old ones, and then point your browser to http://www.yourdomain.com/yoursmfdirectory/upgrade.php and the wizard will do the rest. It will take about 15-20 minutes to do depending on how big your database is. You don't really need to backup your files, but it's always a good idea. I didn't, because I'm lazy and I didn't care if some info was lost. The newer version employs ajax in the menus which is cool. I like it.
I have an iMac with Safari and Firefox as my browsers. Would this work on my machine. Please understand that I am almost moron when it comes to computers.

You have to be a liberal if you have a Mac, it is almost required isn't it?
You are correct and I have no idea why that is so. Do you have a theory?Perhaps it is because they were the little guy. Perhaps it is because there are few viruses.Perhaps, like our simian brothers, we are attracted to bright shiny objects.Perhaps it is because we believe Steve jobs is obnoxious and an elitist and we laud him for it.We have 2 and one more coming this summer--"How about them apples"
Many people in the education sector are (or were) Mac users because that was the target market early on. PC were a big, bad, business tool. However educators found that teaching kids on Macs put them at some disadvantage when they got into the world of work… hence more PC's in schools and on teachers desks (along with a major market shuffle for PC with windows, etc.)People doing graphics and design work often (still) use Macs as the have some advantages for this kind of work. IMHO it's like Chevy v. Ford. You pays your money, you takes your choice.
I would like to have one myself. Just to play with and see what the major differences are in terms of advantages and disadvantages. Obviously Apple still has technological innovations to share, so they aren't going anywhere.
I think that Apple has done much in the way of innovation, so I have to give them that. Also, since I am a free market person, I think that the competition with Microsoft and PC makers has been good. Competitor is pushed against competitor to provide a better product, resulting in better value for the consumer (notice here that value was not created through government intervention). That said, I am a PC person myself. There is much more software available for the PC, and I am accustomed to the way the machines work, so I wouldn't consider parting ways. But I do know people who really like Macs - mostly because of ease of use - so I can appreciate Apple's contributions to people's computing experiences.

I was advised to get a Mac years ago--as you said--ease of use. Same with AOL as a ISP--back then with dial up it was just rightfor neophytes like myself.Just finished a biography of Rockefeller and was surprised to learn that he hated the free market system as he believed in rationalizing an industry by consolidating the companies and then forging cooperative links with those he did not control--in short he liked monopolies and trusts. It was the government the broke Standard Oil apart although in the end it did little good. Also--like Bill Gates is going to do--Old John gave away most of his money--very Christian gentleman although a bit frugal for my tastes.
I have always thought Macs were elitist machines and while they are great for graphics(superior to PC's in that respect) they are just not as good as PC's to me. The reason MACs are more secure is because most viruses are written for windows machines because he vast majority of the worlds computers run one of the various Window OS's whether it is Windows 7, MS Server, Exchange or whatnot. I would go after the more popular one too.As to why liberals love MACs, I dont know. It is just something I have noticed among people my wife and I call friends.
