I always find this list fascinating. They have been putting them out for a while, each year listing the things that the incoming US college freshman have lived through or come to know and accept.http://www.beloit.edu/mindset/2014.phpOne that really scares me this year is way down the list:71. The nation has never approved of the job Congress is doing.Roll that around in your head for a bit. Within a few years, a majority of the generation that has the most control will believe that the US government doesn't work. Many of you may chuckle and ask what's so different. I think most of us in our middle years or beyond remember when it worked better and see this as something temporary that can be resolved through the system. I am not so sure that the next generation will agree.
PhidippidesKeymasterI think it's a reflection of the more partisan America has gotten. On one hand, we can say that such partisanship is bad because it means more infighting within government and less working toward the public good. But on the other hand, we could say that such partisanship is good (at least from my side's perspective) since without it, the other side would simply get its way on everything and lead our nation into ruin. The only time that such partisanship becomes really bad is when there's a temporary shift in the scales (like now) and one party has little opposition to enacting an extreme agenda. And I saw this:50. Toothpaste tubes have always stood up on their caps. I guess I haven't tried to balance my toothpast tubes on their caps, but I am thinking this would not work.
scout1067ParticipantVery interesting list. It definitely highlights the differences between people my age and teenagers today.
