Civil War Dolls Get X-Rayed For Signs Of Smuggling  Using hollowed out dolls to smuggle medicine past the Union blockade was a pretty inventive idea.  I think it is pretty cool that the museum is using modern technology to verify the possibility and considering residue testing to confirm it.  I would be interested t hear if this story is scientifically confirmed.  I would imagine the Confederacy went to all kinds of lengths to get vital material past the blockade.  These two dolls represent a different part of Civil War history than the cutters and other vessels used as blockade runners.
